Why We Like The Recon 30L Backpack
The trip to campus is an adventure all on its own, so we travel with the Recon 30L Backpack in tow. This one massive pack has enough space to get us from 7:30 economics to our dreaded night class without taking a trip back to the car. Not only is the main compartment large enough for textbooks, snacks, a sweatshirt, and all our chargers, but there's also a separate stash made just for keeping our computer safe and sound. Still doesn't sound like enough space? Pockets and daisy chains cover the outside of the pack, so nothing gets left behind.

Dysfunctional Backpack
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I was really excited to get this backpack based on how many positive reviews it had gotten and the fact that I LOVE a good backpack. I wish, however, that I'd realized that the vast majority of the reviews were paid for ("part of a promotion") by Northface and that the common thread amongst the 1-2 star reviews was that many aspects of the backpack's design are flawed and make it pretty annoying to use. In short: the backpack WILL NOT stand up on it's own but instead falls flat on it's face unless very intentionally leaned up against something, the front/top pocket obstructs the opening of the back/main compartment when filled, and the total volume is actually difficult to fully utilize because of the akward placement of the pockets. On the plus side, the materials and construction seem to be high quality so if the design works for you it's a backpack that would probably last for years.

Highly recommend for college students !!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great for walking around a college campus! Holds everything I need for classes and doesn't hurt my back. Lots of pockets and easily holds my 30 oz water bottle with out being too heavy.

Perfect Backpack
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to replace my 12-year-old North Face Recon backpack that finally lost its water resistance. This one is smaller than the prior version but perfect for my needs. Comfortable on hikes, keeps my things dry in the rain, and an abundance of pockets to organize my gear. Love it.

Love this backpack, great back support
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking for a backpack that has more support/padding for my back without being too bulky, and this one is PERFECT. The size isn't too large (or small) for commuting, and the laptop sleeve perfectly fits my 15 inch Macbook. I also love the front pocket; I often shove my keys or other small items in here, but love that the mesh sleeve is colored enough that you can't see the mess inside.

Versatile
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I plan to use both as carryon when traveling and day hikes so when backpack arrived, I immediately packed as if traveling. I could easily fit my 13-inch macbook air in its case, a book, multiple changes of clothing, windbreaker etc. I put waterbortle in front pocket. For day hikes, it is lightweight enough to not be bulky. Comfortable fit/easy adjustable straps.
